Job DescriptionJob Description: Medical Records TechnicianReport To: Medical Records Site Manager / SupervisorGeneral Job DescriptionWorks in a Hospital or a Healthcare Physicians Clinic in fulfilling medical records requests by: Patients, Healthcare Providers, Insurance, Law Office and Government Agencies such as Disability Determination Services.He or she must follow patient and federal government confidentiality procedures (HIPAA Law) to insure access to the correct medical record by the pre-authorized requester.Needs to be computer proficient to interface with the facilities Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, as wells as the NEXT Medical Records, llc software fulfillment tracking system.He or She must have the ability to interface with patients in a pleasant and professional manner.Specific Job DutiesCompliance- Ensure compliance with privacy and security guidelines (HIPAA, state, hospital, etc.)- Control access to health information- Monitor documentation for completeness- Manage release of informationInformation Technology- Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office Products (Work, Excel, etc.)- Be able to use Healthcare Facilities Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system.- Be able to use NEXT Medical Records, llc software fulfillment tracking system.- Manage ROI databaseQuality- Audit health records for content, completeness, accuracy and timeliness.- Implement corrective actions as determined by audit findings.- Comply with HIPAA and Facility Healthcare patient privacy guidelines.- Develop reports and audit findings.Revenue Cycle- Communicate with ROI Requestors on fees and charges for medical records.- Monitor accounts receivable to insure payment.- Maintain the charge master data base to insure proper invoice and payment.Legal- Ensure confidentiality of the health records (paper or electronic)- Adhere to disclosure standards and regulations (HIPAA, HITECH act, etc.)- Serve as the custodian of the health record (paper or electronic)- Fully understand the concepts of; consents, healthcare Power of Attorney, etc.

Education Requirements for the Position of Medical Records TechnicianMust Have:
High School DiplomaPrefer: Associate-s Degree or accreditations such as CHIT or RHIA
